A Multi-Tier MQTT Architecture with Multiple Brokers Based on Fog Computing for Securing Industrial IoT

With the rapid growth of internet-connected devices and their resource-constrained capabilities, current authentication mechanisms are unable to meet complex IoT application requirements, such as in Industrial Internet Things (IIoT), due increased computation, communication, storage overhead arising from these mechanisms. In IIoT, machine-to-machine (M2M) communication is an underlying technology where (e.g., sensors, actuators, controllers) can be enabled exchange information autonomously; thus, massive data generated by increase latency, network congestion, complexity security management. Message queue telemetry transport (MQTT) one promising M2M protocols used that could encounter issues because it relies on a central broker cloud implements heavyweight mechanism based TLS. Therefore, this paper proposes MQTT architecture with multi-tier brokers fog computing, each deployed manager. addition, presents lightweight mutual scheme hash function XOR operation. Comparing results given benchmark, overall performance our shows overheads reduced 89% 23%, respectively. Furthermore, system resist against several cyberattacks provide scalability.
